"McPHERSON, Leslie Burr age 68 years of Dartmouth died October 20, 2015 at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. Born in Abbotsford, B.C. he was a son of the late William & Winnifred (Bourne) McPherson Les grew up on a 40 acre farm on LeFeuvre Rd, Aldergrove B.C.. It was both dairy and beef cattle. He milked cows, cut hay, cut firewood for winter, cut spool wood for a pulp mill, among many other duties required on a farm. He was keenly interested in baseball and hockey and knew many statistics regarding players. His favorite hockey team was always the Toronto Maple Leafs. His favorite player was Frank Mahovolich. After graduating from Abbotsford High School, he worked at Scot Paper running a paper machine in the plant. He made good money for a couple of years until his illness progressed to where he could no longer work. He purchased a new yellow 1965 Chevrolet which he promptly paid off while working there. After Scot Paper, Les had difficulty holding down a job. In 1969 the farm was sold. His mother purchased a house in Abbotsford where Les lived until about 1993. His mother passed away in 1989. He lived by himself for 2-3 years, but as his illness progressed he found it increasingly difficult. One day he just left and headed to Texas. He then made his way to Nashville until he returned to Canada about 5 years later. He returned to Abbotsford about 1998 for a year or so where Mental Health provided him accommodation. One day he just up and left for the east. While living with his mother, he helped her as much as he could, driving her to appointments and making day trips. Of course she helped create a stable environment for Les. Les was very well liked through high school and had many friends. He played softball on the school team, and was a star player. He loved country Music and knew many statistics about the singers-Johnny Cash being one of his favorites. He had a huge record collection. Les was an excellent driver and never had an accident. His first car was a 1951 Plymouth. He then purchased a 1956 Chevrolet. He was very fussy with his cars-always clean and polished. He very fortunate to be raised on a farm where we always had food to eat and warm shelter. He really enjoyed his childhood. Les is survived by his brother Grant of Abbotsford B.C. and Grant was always proud to call him my Brother. Grant would like to thank the community of Dartmouth/Halifax for their kindness and generosity towards Les. I know he really loved living there and appreciated all your help. Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday November 4, 2015 in St. Peters Roman Catholic Church (Maple Street) Dartmouth."
