Graveside services for James Floyd Corbin, Jr., 89, of Clovis, will be at 10:00 AM, Wed., July 13, 2016 in the Portales Cemetery with Carol Williams officiating. Military honors will be rendered by American Legion Post #31 of Portales.
James F. Corbin, Jr, known to everyone as "Junior,". was born Mar. 13, 1927 in Inez, NM to the home of Ella Vera (Barger) and James Floyd Corbin and died early on the morning of July 8, 2016 at Retirement Ranch in Clovis. Mr. Corbin grew up in the Inez community. In 1945, just before the end of WWII, he entered the Army and served in Korea. He was released in 1947, and returned to Portales to live. He was trained in a vocational school as a tractor mechanic and worked for the Bob Slone Implement Company in Portales for several years. In the late 1950's he purchased the Case Tractor Dealership. In 1964, he closed the business and moved to Clovis to go to work for Wayne Wallace Motors as an auto mechanic. Later he went to work in the service department at Bender Auto. In 1972, he began working at Ford New Holland Tractor and Equipment, and retired in 1992 after 20 years. Following his retirement, he owned and operated Corbin Equipment Repair until he retired completely in 2007.
On Dec. 26, 1983, in Clovis, he was married to Barbara Nell Bynum. He was a member of the Methodist Church, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of their home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dale Cole of Clovis and Dell C. and Sharon Mindenhall of Edmond, OK; six daughters and a son-in-law, Terri and Harold Myers of Guthrie, OK, Carrie Cole of Clovis, Kathy Cole of Austin, TX, Cheryl LaMarche of Clovis, Michelle Mecalco of Texarkana, TX and Vickie Mindenhall of Grady, NM; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dorman and Wanda Corbin of Portales and Travis and Jo Corbin of Canon City, CO; and a sister and brother-in-law, Sybil and Edward Estep of Portales. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Dale, Haskel and A. J. "Joyce" Corbin and an infant sister, Wanda Corbin.
