Obituary for Junior Shinn
Junior Shinn age 87, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday morning, July 10, 2013, at his residence in Knoxville.
Junior was born in Knoxville, Iowa on December 9, 1928, the son of Noel Dunbar and Callie Elizabeth (Ivey) Shinn. He was raised in Knoxville and attended Knoxville High School.

On September 29, 1945 in Tijuana, Mexico Junior and Betty Louise Simbro were united in marriage. They were blessed with over 67 years of marriage before Betty's passing on March 10, 2013.

Junior and Betty lived a short time in Los Angeles before moving back to Knoxville. Junior drove truck most his life. He worked with Shinn Brothers Trucking, he drove truck over the road and in the early 1970's he began to work for the Marion County Transportation Department. He began as a road grader operator for the county and retired as the county purchasing agent.

Junior enjoyed people. Most days started with breakfast at HyVee, then out to visit at the Shinn Trucking Shop, next lunch at the senior center and afternoon coffee time back at HyVee. He enjoyed the company and all the stories, but he loved time with his family the most.

Junior is survived by his children: Dean (Jan) Shinn of Knoxville, Connie (Tom) Pregon of Knoxville, and Marty (Brenda) Shinn of Pella; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; He was preceded by his parents Noel and Callie Shinn; one son in infancy, William Earl Shinn; two brothers, Benoni Shinn and "Big" Joe Shinn; and one sister, Bonnie Loynachan.

Junior's wishes were to be cremated and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. Burial will follow services at the Graceland Cemetery of Knoxville.

Junior's wishes were to be cremated and a memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. Junior's family will be present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established to the Knoxville Senior Center or to the donor's choice in Junior's memory.
