H. Gene Medhaug, 90, of Waterloo, died Monday, July 11, at the Western Home Communities Martin Center.
He was born July 24, 1925 in Howard County, son of Martin and Lena Johnson Medhaug. He married Janet Wildeboer on April 1, 1950 in Harmony, Minnesota. She died September 25, 2009.
Gene was employed with Rath Packing Company and owned and operated the Elk Run Grocery, known as the "Little Store", retiring in 2000.
Survivors include a son, Joseph (Amy) Medhaug of Raymond; three daughters, Vicki (Bill) Zimmer of Laveen, Arizona, Judy (Roger) Turner of Apache Junction, Arizona and Susan (Kris) Hansen of Cedar Falls; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Bert Medhaug of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Medhaug; a son, Martin Medhaug; three brothers, Sanford, Howard and Edwin Medhaug; and four sisters, Elsie Hartung, Anna Inman, Lucille Mintey and Elnora Murphy.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and for an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.
