Nickname came from his childhood days working at the Benage Dairy in Lebanon, having blond hair that looked like cotton. Received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, but chose to attend college at the University of Missouri. Was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and also a member of the Mizzou golf team. Was admitted to Washington University School of Medicine after just 3 years of college. Completed his surgical training at Washington University School of Medicine and went into private practice in St. Louis, Mo. as a general surgeon. Was Chief of Surgery and became Chief of Staff at Christian Hospital. Spent his final years at Christian as Vice-President of Medical Affairs. Was a skilled surgeon and with his dedication, compassion, and his warm and easy going personality touched the lives of many in the St. Louis area.

Loved to fish with his family and grandchildren. Enjoyed boating, waterskiing, table tennis, playing the ukulele and traveling. Always got a kick from a good practical joke and his laugh was as enjoyable as the joke itself. Was a talented golfer and won the club championship at Glen Echo CC. For a time held the course record there with a score of 67. Made it to the St Louis district golf finals.

After retiring, moved with his wife to Venice, Fl. where they made many new friends. Preceded in death by his parents Jewell and Edna Benage and his brother JC Benage.
