SFC (Retired) Robert Lee Guyse, 66, of Phenix City, AL passed away early Saturday morning, July 9, 2016 in the comfort of his home while surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm EDT Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Chaplain Dean Knipe officiating.

Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:30 pm EDT at the funeral home.

Robert was born March 15, 1950 in Niles, MI to the late Paul Guyse and Betty DeLong Guyse.

He was raised in Deland, FL and enjoyed swimming and watching manatees as a child at Blue Springs, FL with his friends, and he would work his summers with a survey company.

Robert married his wife Peggy in Texas in 1974.

He enjoyed bowling and was avid fisherman sharing favorite fishing spots with his grandsons and friends.

Robert was always willing to sacrifice for others, and was a wonderful provider for his family, he loved walking his dog Earl on the river walk and having quite time.

He served our country and was retired as a SFC from the United States Army with 21 ½ years of dedicated service.

He was attached to 101st Airborne Division and served two tours in Vietnam.

He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with letter “V” Device, Air Medal with (1) Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with (4) Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters with letter “V” Device, Army Achievement Medal with (1) Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, 6th award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with (2) Bronze Service Stars with (1) Silver Service Star, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral (4), Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, Expert Infantryman Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, with Device (1960), Expert Badge with Auto Rifle Bar with Machine Gun Bar, and Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar.

After retiring from the military, he worked with Goodwill, worked as a security guard, and worked with Livingston Shreddex; and after retirement, Robert enjoyed more opportunities fishing and spending with his family.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Peggy Pogue Guyse, daughter, Nicole Guyse and fiancé Glenn Andrews, sisters, Paula, Kathy, Patty Judy, Karen, Joy, and Vicky; (4) grandchildren, Preston, Peyton Teel (Amber), Paxton, and Domonic, one great grandchild, Riley Teel, a host of nieces and nephews and other extended family members, his beloved pet dog, Earl, and many caring friends.
