BEDFORD - William Edward Boruff (known as Bill) passed away Sunday, November 19, 2006, at Westview Nursing & Rehab Center in Bedford, Indiana. He was born June 24, 1922, in Cleveland, Ohio. Bill was the son of two school teachers, Glenn and Edith (Weybright) Boruff of Lakewood, Ohio, who were originally from Bloomington, Indiana. A 1941 graduate of Lakewood High School, he attended Indiana University and was a clarinetist in the Marching Hundred band. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps for meteorological training at Denison University in Ohio. He was stationed at various bases in the U.S. and then Naples, Italy. After serving in Florida and Italy, he returned home to complete his B.S. in Chemistry at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. Bill soon thereafter married his young sweetheart, Ellen Drouillard, also of Lakewood, OH. They met as members of the Lakewood Christian Church. Bill was a very devoted and hard-working husband and father. His career in the paint and plastics fields led to the development of his own company as a manufacture's representative for plastics machinery and raw materials. He spent many days and nights covering his Midwest territory for the sake of Ellen and their four girls: Jane Tesso, (Jim) of Chesterland, Ohio; Katherine Boruff (Paul Krutko) who passed away November 2004; Christine Goehner (Paul) of Calgary, Alberta; and Barbara Ruben (John) of Austin, Texas.

Bill was active in the Wiser Men's Club of the YMCA in Lakewood, and served as president. Other organizations to which Bill belonged were: the Society of Plastic Engineers (an officer and president) The Paint, Varnish and Lacquer Association and the U.S. Power Squadrons in Rocky River, Ohio, and Salt Creek, IN. He loved sailing on Lake Erie in his Comet and Lightning racing boats.

Bill was given a second chance at life as upon retirement, he and Ellen moved to the Boruff family farm on Schacht Road in Bloomington, Indiana. The Boruff farm has been in the family since 1819. Both his father, Glenn T. Boruff, and grandfather, Dugan Boruff, were both born on the original homestead. During his supposed retirement years, Bill was also in the Monroe County Cattlemen's Association, and he thrived on managing his beef cattle as he tended the land that he loved.

His gentle and quiet ways will be missed by his wife of 57 years, his daughters and grandchildren, Brendon and Meghan McHale, Adam, William and Allene Goehner, and Ariel and Carena Ruben, and his brother, John Boruff and wife Martha (Myers) Boruff of Roachdale, IN, and 6 nieces and 10 nephews.

The family gratefully thanks the support and love of the many homecare givers, neighbors and the staff of Westview Nursing Home and Southern Care Hospice.

Dear Dad, Rest in Peace and be well.

In lieu of funeral services, a Memorial will be held June 30th, 2007, for the family and friends at the Boruff Farm. Memorial contributions can be made to the Parkinson's Awareness Association of Central Indiana or the National Parkinson Foundation Inc., in care of Allen Funeral Home.

Allen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
