Mrs. Edwards came to Tracy in 1887 when the town was just beginning to suffer it first stages of growing pains. Her husband, William R. Edwards is remembered by many as the publisher and owner of an early Tracy newspaper, the Tracy Republican Trumpet. He was also postmaster here for some years.
Still active and enjoying good health, Mrs. Edwards continues to enjoy her favorite hobbies of gardening, tatting and sewing quilts. For many years she has followed the happy pursuit of sewing pillow cases for young friends who are about to become brides. Many Tracy wives have a set of pillow cases from Mrs. Edwards needle among their treasured possessions.
Josephine Bigelow was born in New York state on October 22, 1848 in the town of Gowanda. Moving to Wisconsin with her parents she grew to womanhood in the small village of Omro. She was married to William Edwards in 1870 and lived for a time in Iowa.
With her husband she was one of the pioneers who helped build and improve the little town of Tracy. A member of the Presbyterian Church since coming here, Mrs. Edwards has always been deeply interested in church activity. She was president of the Missionary Society and ladies aid for many years. One of the first members of the Sorosis Society, she remained active in the group for 30 years.
Mrs. Edwards has always enjoyed fine health and has never been in a hospital except as a visitor. Four of the seven children of Mr. and Mrs. Edwards are still living. They are, Mrs. G.A. Pearce of Duluth, Mrs. Don Casselman of Tracy, Mrs. A.D. Allen of Canby and Miss Hazel Edwards who lives at home with her mother. Mrs. Edwards has five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
