February 3, 1843, James J. Lipham married Elizabeth J. Walston, may be daughter of neighbors John Walston and Sarah Wilson. Elizabeth bore three daughters, the last two of them twins, before her death around 1846.
Jim remarried on September 7, 1848 to Elizabeth Heard, with whom he had for children before his own death on March 5, 1858. James is buried at Eden Primitive Baptist Church in Bowdon, Georgia; his first wife Elizabeth Walston's grave has not been located.
