Son of Allen Albritton and his second wife Rebecca. About 1861 he with his widowed mother moved to Berrien County where his brother, Littleton L. Albritton and sister Mariah (who became the wife of Matthew R. Grace in Berrien County in 1857) and another sister, Mary Jane (who became the first wife of Thos. M. Ray of Berrien county) had
already moved. Matthew H., the subject, was married twice. His first marriage was on Nov. 28, 1869, to Susan Catherine Byrd, born Sept. 20, 1848, daughter of Nathan W. Byrd She died March 2, 1882, and three years later, on July 16, 1885, he married Miss Laura A. Myers of Nashville; she was born June 7, 1858. By her five children were born.

Mr. Albritton was a faithful Confederate soldier, and in his later years was granted a Confederate soldier's pension. He enlisted at Nashville, Oct. 22, 1862, in Co. "E", 50th Georgia Infantry Regiment, a Berrien County
company. He was wounded in his throat and later in his right side (dates and places not shown) and was granted a furlough and came home. On his way back to rejoin his command he learned of Gen. Lee's surrender,consequently
he surrendered himself near Augusta and was paroled and returned home(these details from his pension papers).
