William Garrard, 86, died yesterday shortly after 3 pm at home in Franklin, PA.
He will be remembered by the many who met him here during a visit with his son in 1907 and 1908. He was a pioneer of the Pennsylvania oil industry, having drilled and operated wells as early as 1859 in Oil Creek, PA, soon after Colonel Drake discovered oil. Among friends he were Coal Oil Johnny Steele and other famous men. He was a native of England.
He leaves jis wife, Mrs. Adelaide M. Garrard; his son and grandson here, Councilman E. J. Garrard and Harold W. Garrard of Richmond; other children, H. V. Garrard of Franklin, PA, C. F. Garrard of Akron, OH, Mrs. Hitchcock of West Pullman, IL, and Mrs. J. M. Can Delden of Chicago.
