Robert Marcus Mandt, 89, of Rose Creek, died peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday July 5, 2016 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.

He was born June 3, 1927, in Farmington, Minnesota, to Joseph and Clara (Washer) Mandt. He grew up on the family farm in Farmington and moved to Austin, Minnesota, with the family in 1943. Bob joined the U.S. Navy in 1945, serving in the Pacific. Upon discharge, he returned to Austin and began working at Hormel in 1948.

On April 28, 1951, he married Dorothy Mae Majerus in Austin.

The couple moved to Rose Creek in 1963. Bob continued to work at Hormel for over 30 years, also farming in partnership with his brothers. After retiring, Bob and Dorothy wintered in Riverview, Florida.

Bob was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Rose Creek.

He was active in the Moose Lodge and enjoyed socializing with friends and family, watching sporting events, spoiling pets and tinkering around the house and farm.

Survivors include his sons Larry, Qualicum Beach, BC Canada and Al (Brenda), Rose Creek; daughter, Jodi, Bloomington, MN; son-in-law Dean (Rhonda) Sayles, Austin; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Don, Rose Creek; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Debbie; daughter-in-law Ruth; siblings, Virginia, Marc and Joe.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2016, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek with Father Swaminatha Pothireddy officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Military rites will be by American Legion Post No. 91. Interment will be in Enterprise Cemetery at a later date.
