Betty was born March 26, 1929, in McIntyre, Georgia to Joseph O. and Ruby Brooks Beck.
Betty was a fun-loving companion for theater, music, and travel, and she enjoyed reading. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her family and many friends.
Betty was a long-time member of Friends of the Eckhart Public Library and a dedicated library volunteer. She was a member of the Kenwigs Literary Club in Auburn and of the Chi Chapter of the Sigma Eta Fine Arts Sorority. She regularly attended the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ and of the Lydia Circle in Auburn.
After raising her family, Betty returned to college and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing from Purdue University. Her nursing career spanned 30 years, with most of this time spent working at Miller’s Merry Manor in Garrett as a nurse and as staff development director. She retired in 1997. She enjoyed her career in nursing and was involved in various professional nursing organizations.
Betty is survived by four children: James D. (Angie) Honaker of Tompkinsville, Kentucky; Timothy R. (Sharon) Honaker of Glenville, Illinois; Janelle ( Steven) Graber of Auburn; and Julia C. Honaker of Churubusco; nine grandchildren and their spouses: Michelle (Randy) Krock, Chad ( Jenny) Honaker, Zackery Honaker, Tara (Mark) Lunardi, Todd ( Jayme) Honaker, Brian Honaker, Kevin Honaker, Daniel ( Taylor) Graber, and Rebekah Graber; eight great- grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean ( Bill) Jolley of Montpelier, Vermont, and Sara ( Jay) Fein of Alexandria, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael J. Honaker; and a sister, Jackie Crover.
A memorial service will take place at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016, at the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 910 N. Indiana Ave, Auburn, with the Rev. Betty Sivis officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date in the Macon Memorial Park Cemetery in Macon, Georgia.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4:30 on Saturday at the church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Eckhart Public Library Fund in care of the Community Foundation of DeKalb County or the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Auburn.
