Florence Lois Bringman, 92, passed away on June 30, 2016 at Lutheran Village of Wolf Creek, where she had been a resident since April of 2015. She was born June 12, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to parents William and Emma Barratt. She graduated from Frankfort High School in 1942.
She served her country during WWII, enlisting in the US Navy in 1944. She was stationed in Memphis, Tennessee achieving the rank of Yeoman, Third Class where she met the love of her life, Virgil, who was also serving his country in the US Navy. They married in Pemberville, Ohio on June 21, 1945 and moved to Toledo. They were married for 69 years until Virgil’s passing in 2014. She often said joining the Navy was the best decision she ever made. Her military photo is displayed on the “Faces of Heroes” wall at the Veteran’s Outpatient Clinic on S. Detroit Avenue in Toledo.
She and Virgil traveled to Japan, Hong Kong, England, Germany, France, Switzerland, Hawaii and throughout the United States. For over 30 years they wintered in Naples, Florida where they enjoyed golfing, playing euchre and being with friends. She was a devoted and longtime member of Hope Lutheran Church since 1951. Florence was a member of a local garden club where she won several blue ribbons for her floral arrangements. She enjoyed sewing and often made clothes for her three daughters. Florence learned to golf so she could spend more time with Virgil and played over 50 years at Valleywood Golf Club. She was a homemaker until all her daughters were in school where she then took a job in the catalog department at Sears. She was also a member of the Lake Erie Waves, Unit 128, serving several years as Recording Secretary.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil, brother Roland, and sister Helen. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Bruce) Foster, Sue (James) Pedro, and Cathy Stuttle. Also surviving are grandchildren, Corey (Landon) Tracey, Charles Bradley (Joanna) Brown, Stacey (Brett) Steiner, Erin Pedro, Carley Stuttle, and Bennett Brown. Her great grandchildren are Keegan and Ainsley Tracey, Elsa Brown, and Sage Steiner.
The family will welcome friends at the Maison-Dardenne Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee, on Thursday, July 7 from 4-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church at the corner of Secor and Indian Roads in Ottawa Hills.
