Rachel May Book, 92 of Abilene passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. She was born May 1, 1924 in Union City, Ohio, the daughter of Elmer & Lydia (Hoke) Hoover. She graduated High School from Messiah, Pennsylvania. On December 28, 1943 she was united in marriage to Paul Book. He preceded her in death May 3, 1984. Rachel was a homemaker and a member of the Brethren in Christ Church in Abilene.Rachel is survived by her two sons, Kenneth Book of Abilene and Glenn Book and wife Jean of Abilene. Four granddaughters, Stephanie Steele and husband Beau, Kimberly Reinert and husband Jarrod, Sarah Brown and husband Eric and Amber Denny and husband Allen. One step-grandson, Michael Ade and wife Christal. Two great-grandchildren and 5 step-great –grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Paul, a son, Lynn L. Book, eight brothers and four sisters, and a daughter-in-law Selena Book.Funeral Services for Rachel will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Brethren in Christ Church in Abilene with Pastor Dale Engle officiating. Burial will follow at the Abilene City Cemetery in Abilene. Family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-7 P.M., at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. The family suggests memorials be given the Brethren in Christ Church of Abilene. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene, Kansas 67410.
