Day by day the ranks of those who wore the blue and gray during the Civil War are growing thinner. On last Saturday at his home near Gray, Okla., William Jefferson WATSON, age 86, years, 4 months, and 7 days, answered the last roll call. Funeral services were held at Gray Sunday afternoon, Rev. W. B. Hicks, pastor of the First Methodist church of Perryton, officiating. Interment was in the Bethany cemetery.
The deceased was born January 20, 1847, at Clintonville, Ala. At the age of twenty-one, he moved to Texas and on March 2, 1879, he was married at San Marcos, Texas, to Miss Mary D. KINCAID. In early life he became a member of the Methodist church, leading a noble Christian life until the end.
Surviving relatives are the wife, four sons and two daughters: Mrs. W. L. SEAGO, Perryton; Mrs. E. M. BRYAN, Gray; Guy WATSON, Jeff WATSON and Elmer WATSON, Gray; and Clarence WATSON, Aledo, Okla.; three sisters, Mrs. Mary KINCAID, Leedy, Okla.; Mrs. Randa KELLAM, Robstown, Texas, and Mrs. Sarah DAVIS, Ballinger, Texas. He also leaves twenty-three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and close friends.
During the Civil War, he was a member of the Confederate forces. Mr. WATSON lived a life devoted to his family, church and community. Before he became incapacitated by age and illness, he served in many offices in his church. He will be remembered by those who knew him for his honorable upright life.
