Ignacio Rafael Alvarado y (?) was born at Real de Santa Ana (not far from La Paz) about 1745. He was the son of soldado Miguel Alvarado (c. 1715-After 1752, Baja California). Ignacio enlisted as a soldado de cuera at Loreto Presidio about 1765. Ignacio may have accompanied Lieutenant Rivera y Moncada to San Diego in 1769. He appears on the San Diego Presidio roster dated January 1, 1775 as a soldado, and as a sargento in the Census of 1790. He retired from military to a plot of land at Los Angeles, where he died in early October 1819. Ignacio was buried in the San Gabriel Mission Cemetery on October 3, 1819 (SG Death 04193). He was never married (see: Crosby. Antigua California, p 414; 1775 and 1790 Census).
