News was received of the death yesterday, of Gardner C. Gifford, of Myers, in New York City, where he had gone for a visit. Mr. Gifford was a lawyer and bore the distinction of being the oldest member of the bar of Tompkins County.

Undertaker C.N. Baldwin will go to New York tonight to take charge of the body and arrange for its shipment to Mr. Gifford’s late home.

William Austin, of Trumansburg, is now the dean of the County Bar, he having been admitted to practice shortly after the late Attorney Gifford received his diploma.

The remains of Gardner C. Gifford, who was the oldest Tompkins County lawyer, arrived from New York yesterday and were taken to the home of his sister in Ludlowville, where the funeral was held at two o’clock this afternoon. The interment took place in Lake View cemetery.
