Thomas F. Brashear, Jr. was born in Hearne, Texas on 12 March 1918 to Thomas Finney Brashear and Annie Bussie Griffin Brashear. He passed from this life on 5 November, 2006 at the Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring, Texas.

After two years of college at the University of Texas at Austin where he belonged to the Sigma Nu fraternity, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps after the outbreak of World War II. He served on Active Duty as a Classifications and Assignments Officer until his discharge at the end of the war, at which time he entered the US Air Force Reserves from which he later retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

After his discharge from Active Duty, he served on the Staff of Congressman Homer Thornberry in Washington DC for several years before joining El Paso Natural Gas Company in El Paso Texas. After many various positions with EPNG, he retired in 1987.

As a member of the community, he was the Sunday School Director at Saint Clement's Episcopal Church for several years and hosted foreign officers from the Air Defense School at Allied Officer Sponsorship Program at Fort Bliss.

Upon retirement his primary pursuits revolved around Masonic activities with the El Paso Scottish Rite and El Maida Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (AAONMS) in El Paso. As a Degree leader and charged with conducting the ritual during a meeting of obligation, he deservedly earned the title of Knight Commander of the Court of Honor (KCCH). While with El Maida, he served on the Divan for 10 years and was selected as Potentate in 1985. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. He spent countless hours shepherding children to Masonic burn centers, advocating Masonic charities, endorsing the Shrine Circus, explaining to school classes throughout El Paso haw Masonic charities influenced their lives. He was also instrumental in having General of the Army Omar Bradley become a member of the El Maida Shrine Temple.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Josephine Dorn Brashear of Barksdale Texas, and by his parents, and by his sister, Ann Brashear Newton of Austin. He is survived by his wife of 7 years, Mary Jane Weaver Brashear of El Paso; his daughters Barbara Ann Gerard and her husband David W. Gerard of Terrell, North Carolina; and Betty Shaffer and her husband Hugh A. Shaffer of Midland; two grandchildren Marianne Gerard Zura and Robert Thomas Gerard; two great grandchildren Conor Edwin and Gavin Wallace Zura; and niece Nancy Newton Robinson of Austin; and nephew Charles Thomas Newton of Houston.

Funeral Services are pending at Kaster-Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home in El Paso with interment with military honors at the National Cemetery at Fort Bliss, Texas on Monday, 13 November at 11:30AM.
