John G. Bremer, Resident 60 Years, Taken by Death
Held Many Positions of Trust; Lived in County Sixty Years.

At 8 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, John G. Bremer of Mira Valley passed to his reward, quickly, peaceably and quietly, a fitting climax to a life spent as nearly as possible at peace with all men. Born Nov. 16, 1872, a son of John Bremer and Bertha Prien Bremer, John George Bremer was just past 77 years of age at the time of his death.
He was baptized May 18, 1873, in Davenport, Ia., where the family lived. He was confirmed April 3, 1887 in the Evangelical Lutheran church at Davenport, by A.D. Greil, pastor. His confirmation verse was John 8,12. In the spring of 1889 he moved with the family to Mira Valley, which has been his home for 60 years.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran church of Mira Valley since its organization in the fall of 1889. He remained faithful as an elder an an officer until his death. He was married May 22, 1907 to Elsie Vogeler of North Loup, the ceremony being performed by Rev. R.G. Hellwege.
This union was blessed with eight children: James A. Bremer, St. Libory, Nebr.; George J. Bremer, Ord; William M. Bremer, Ord; Mrs. Lois Michael, White, S. Dakota; Mrs. Ava Michael, White, S. Dakota; Franklin D. Bremer, Ord; Mrs. Frances Friedrich, Alta, Ia.; and John David Bremer, who died in infancy.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at St. John's Lutheran church in Mira Valley, Rev. Paul Priesz, pastor, in charge. Six nephews of Mr. Bremer acted as pall bearers. It was Mr. Bremer's oft expressed wish that there be no flowers, but many were sent. Others followed out his wish and gave donations to various Lutheran charitable institutions in his memory.
Besides his children and wife, Mr. Bremer is survived by one brother, Louis of Scotia, and five sisters, Mrs. Caroline Hellwege, Mrs. Augusta Lange, Mrs. Emilie Dobberstine, Mrs. Laura Fuss and Mrs. Bertha Bremer, all of Ord. He was preceded in death by his infant son, his parents, one brother, Julius Bremer of Davenport, Ia., and one sister, Mrs. Freida Rachuy of Ord.
Mr. Bremer was a man of many duties, and he took good care of all tasks assigned him. He served as supervisor from Dist. No. 6, comprising Enterprise; Davis Creek and Independent townships a total of 12 years, from 1901 to 1909, and again from 1936 to 1940.
He was one of the organizers of the Farmers Grain and Supply company, and was the last remaining member of the original board. He became a member of the board of the Loup National Farm Loan association in 1938, and was still a member at his death.
He served as treasurer of School Dist. 15 for more than 30 years. For years he was a member of the Enterprise township board, and was a director of the Farmer Mutual Telephone company. He took a deep interest in the affairs of the community and performed his many duties well.
Besides those already mentioned, attending the funeral from a distance were Albert Bremer, Davenport, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Acton, Lombard, Ill.; Mrs. Clara Wilkie and son, and Miss Leona Wilkie of Leigh, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Bangert, Mrs. Dave Bredthauer and children, of Grand Island; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Bredthauer and sons of Wood River; Mrs. Emelia Seefus, Mr. And Mrs. Herman Bredthauer, Mr. and Mrs. A. Wagner, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Bremer and daughters and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bremer and children, all of Scotia.
