Judith A. "Judy" Bennett, 71, of Kearney, MO. passed away January 1, 2013 after a short battle with cancer. Services were held 1:00 pm Friday, January 4, 2013 at Fry-Bross-Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney, MO. with visitation 12-1 pm prior to the service. Burial followed at Glenridge Cemetery Liberty, MO.

Judy was born in Carrollton MO on October 22, 1941 to George Daniel Babb and Mary (Shinneman) Babb. Judy graduated 1959 from Chillicothe High School in Livingston County, MO and then moved to Liberty, MO. shortly after.

While employed in her first full-time job at the Gas Service Company, Judy met her husband George “Bill” Bennett and they were married on November 27, 1963.

Judy was active in business and community activities in the Liberty, MO. area her entire life. She was the first female bank president for Centre Bank and held the position of Bank President of Boatmen’s Bank when she retired in 1993. As a bank President, Judy was in the position to give many young professionals in the Liberty area their first loans/banking opportunities. Judy served as President of the Liberty Chamber of Commerce, was a past president of Liberty Soroptimist Club, a member of Ozanam Advisory Board, Liberty Hospital Board of Trustees, Missouri Women’s Banking Association and more.

Judy received the Anne Robb Townsend Award for excellence in business leadership and was named Woman of the Year by the American Association of University Women. Judy received the American Bankers’ Presidential Citation in 1984.

Judy retired early to enjoy time with her family, to travel and to visit her home at the Lake of the Ozarks. She was an active volunteer at Liberty Hospital. At the time of her death, she was the President of Liberty Hospital Auxiliary.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Bill. She is survived by her daughter, Kim Kirkendoll, Granddaughter Shelbie Kirkendoll and Daughter-in-Law Lisa Gregg – all of Kearney, MO. half-brothers Donald Babb of Baytown, TX and Jerry Babb of Beloit, WI. Judy leaves behind many friends and acquaintances that she has met over the years from the business world and her volunteer activities.

Memorial contributions can be made in Judy’s name to Liberty Hospital Foundation.
