(The middle name of "Washington" is not yet confirmed on record. A grandson bore the name of William Washington. Another grandson [son of James Harrison Brisco] bears the name John Washington and could have been named after his grandfather. A great grandson also bears the middle name of Washington.)

Currently, genealogical records on John W begin with the 1870 Census, showing him as a farmer, with four children. The oldest daughter, Lavinia, age 9, is shown as "Keeping House". No spouse is listed.

Living conditions in the Parker County area would have been harsh and sometimes dangerous, with the last recorded Indian raid occurring in 1874. During the 1870's, the agricultural economy improved steadily, with thousands of people moving into the vicinity.

In 1880, Isabell is shown as his wife, with 6 children, 2 daughters and 4 sons, ages 19 to 7. The second daughter is not currently shown on FG, but may have been named Elise Rebecca Brisco and married J. S. Bedford 6 Aug 1883 in Parker County.

In 1900, John W and Isabell are ages 60 and 63, respectively and living alone, although married children and families are living nearby.

In 1910, John and Isabell, married 42 years, are living alone, although still with children nearby.

John died two years later, in 1912, leaving a growing family of farmers as his legacy.
