Middle initial from marriage certificate.
Married on November 3, 1880, Mary E. Hannaford.

Fred's statement that he was not less than 21 years old in his 1880 marriage license is the basis for estimated year of birth used in this memorial.

1881 city directory shown as Brakeman, bds 30 Cliff, Cleveland.

1885 city directory shown as Fireman, r. 101 Jennings av., Cleveland (address of Nancy Hannaford, his mother-in-law) (household of Reuben Hannaford, who died in 1884 but whose name is still listed at that address in 1885 directory).

Divorced before 1900 .

The household of Carrie Hale and her husband Frank Hale at 789 Republic in the 1898 and 1899 directories included her mother Nancy Hannaford and half-sister, Mary Hannaford Mowrey. In 1900 U.S. census, Mrs. Nancy Hannaford and Mrs. Mary Mowrey (divorced from Fred H. Mowrey) were also shown as living at the Hale residence at 744 Republic St., Cleveland, as well as in the 1900 and 1903 city directories. In the 1904 Cleveland, OH, city directory at 744 Republic, Mary was reported for the first time as the widow of Fred Mowrey. Fred's year of death is on or before 1904 if Cleveland city directory information is accurate, but a Fred Mowrey, fireman on the railroad visited his parents in Altoona in 1914.

In the 1910 U.S. census, the household of Carrie Hale and Frank Hale at 1891 E. 101st, Cleveland, OH, included her mother Nancy Hannaford, age 89, and half-sister Mary H. Mowrey. Mary was also shown at that address in the Cleveland city directories in 1907, 1911, and 1915.

Frank Hale died in 1916 and Mary and Carrie are again shown in same household at 1954 E. 71st St., in 1920 U.S. census.

In the 1920 Cleveland, OH, city directory, p. 131, Mary was shown as widow of F. H. Mowrey, at 1954 E. 71st St. ; on p. 731, Carrie shown at 1854 (sic) E. 71st St. as widow of F. A. Hale. Carrie's address entry is a typo in the address since both sisters lived together at 1954 E. 71st St. as shown in the 1920 census.
