Martha Evans Tullis was born on 19 July 1829 in Monroe County, Georgia, to Moses Tullis IV and Mariah H Maddox. According to her, the Tullis family were Huguenots from France, landed gentry, and of noble birth. Martha married Edmond "Ed" McGlaun Jr on 8 April 1847, in Muscogee County, Georgia. Their children were William Moses, Susan Ann Mariah, Martha Jane Rebecca Frances, James Edmund, Rathiel Elizabeth Nancy Saphrinia, and Mary Amelia Adeline Angeline McGlaun. The family moved from Georgia to Sparta, Louisiana, ca 1857-58. While there, Ed served in the Civil War. They left Louisiana, 1872-73, moving to Robertson County, Texas, establishing a cotton gin and gristmill at Wooten Wells. Later, the family moved to Nesbitt, Texas, where Ed owned and operated two cotton gins. Martha Tullis McGlaun died on 31 October 1908, aged 75, and was buried at Nesbitt Cemetery.
