Robert Christian Jorgensen was born on January 25, 1917 near Hancock, Iowa. He was the son of Nels and Anna Thompson Jorgensen. He was one of five children in the family. He attended rural school near Hancock. Robert was united in marriage to Leona Holtz on September 14, 1940. They were the parents of four children. Robert was in the Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific Theater and while there he served on the USS Lexington. After the war he returned home and he and Leona operated the "Y" Oil Station for a short time and then he joined his father in the Jorgensen Feed and Seed store. Robert retired in December of 1973. Leona passed away on November 7, 1990, at her daughter's home in Wyoming. Robert moved to the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn in January of 1996. He was a member of the English Lutheran Church until it became Trinity Lutheran Church and was a member of the Avoca American Legion. Robert passed away on October 15, 1998 at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. He had attained the age of 81 years, 8 months and 20 days. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Leona, his parents, and two sisters; Margaret Applegate and one, Merle Lois, who died at birth. He leaves to mourn his passing his children: Judy and her husband, John Yeager of Sheridan, Wyoming; Robert L. Jorgensen and his wife, Connie of Avoca; Barbara and her husband, John Petersen of Manilla, Iowa; David Jorgensen and his wife, Patricia of Avoca; 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Holtz of Oakland, Iowa and Elaine and her husband, Wesley Andersen of Minden, Nebraska, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
