Mrs. Romanita de los Santos vda. de Toscano, 65, died Friday in Valley Baptist Hospital.

Mrs. Toscano, the widow of the late Abel Toscano Sr., was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was left a widow at the age of 30 with seven children and operated one of Harlingen's first grocery stores.

In the 1933 hurricane, she gave food and shelter to storm victims. Before doctors were plentiful, she acted as a midwife and brought many Harlingen babies into the world.

Survivors include one son, Abel Toscano Jr. of Harlingen; six daughters, Mrs. Juanita T. Gutierrez of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Ygancia T. Mungia of Harlingen, Mrs. Angelita T. Lozano of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Gertrudes T. Guendulay of San Antonio, Mrs. Hilaria T. Griffith of Sacramento, Calf. and Mrs. Gabriela T. Campos of Visalia, Calif.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Anita Ortiz of Corpus Christi and Mrs. Lamar Perez of Mesa, Ariz.; one brother, Ben de los Santos of Corpus Christi; 36 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. in the Kreidler-Ashcraft Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be held in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 4 p.m. Monday with the Rev. John Ward officiating.

Burial will be in the Harlingen City Cemetery under the direction of Kreidler-Ashcraft Funeral Directors.
