Lyons Kelliher was a Detective for the Chicago Police Department in Illinois. He served 4 years for the Police Force, dying in the line of duty at age 52. Detective Kelliher and his partner went to the Boulevard Hotel at 2801 Warren Avenue during a Narcotics Investigation. They were in the process of arresting two wanted men. They were searching the men for weapons and contraband, when one pulled out a .38 caliber pistol and opened fire, then fled. Detective Kelliher's partner was shot in the right hand and right foot, which prevented him from returning fire or giving a chase. Both Detectives were rushed to Illinois Research Hospital, where Detective Kelliher soon died from his wounds. Detective Kelliher was the son of a retired Police Captain, Patrick Kelliher.
