6', light complexion, blue eyes, brown hair.
Enlisted on 8/1/1861 at Staunton, VA., he was mustered into "G" Co. VA 58th Infantry as a Private.
Absent, Sick, hospitalized at Monterey, VA. on Nov & Dec 1861 and Jan & Feb 1862 Rolls.
Wounded, lost finger on left hand, 12/13/1862 1st Battle of Fredericksburg, VA.; present, returned to duty on July & August 1863 Roll.
POW 5/12/1864 Spotsylvania Court House, VA.; confined 5/19/1864 at Fort Delaware, DE.; exchanged 9/30/1864.
On 10/12/1864 final Roll at Camp Lee, VA.
Paroled 5/23/1865 Staunton, VA.

Postwar, he was a shoemaker living in Rockbridge County, VA.
On 7/12/1902, living in Zack, Rockbridge County, he was 68 years old when he applied for a partial disabilty due to his wounded hand.
On 3/3/1916, he was living in Raphine, VA., and was 82 years old when he applied for full disability due to "advanced" age and wound. He was approved on 5/12/1916 for $50 per annum.
Died at Walkers Creek, VA.

The 58th Virginia Infantry Regiment completed its organization in October, 1861. Most of its members were raised in Bedford, Franklin, and Amherst counties.
