Pruitt City - EMORY EDWARD "ED" WILEY SR., 80, of Pruitt City, died Saturday, November 4, 2006, in a nursing home in Davis.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Ratliff City First Baptist Church, with Monk Firestone officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Healdton, under direction of Alexander Funeral Home.
Ed was born April 10, 1926, in Stroud, to Charles Edward Wiley and Mearl Hattie Howes Wiley. He moved to this area as a young boy because his father had been transferred to Fox working for Lone Star. He attended school at Fox, graduating from there in 1944. He was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving stateside and being honorably discharged Nov. 1, 1945. He returned to this area and began his employment with Mobil Oil Co. In December of 1984, he retired from Mobil as a lease operator after 40 years of employment.
He married Fairy Elizabeth Birdwell on Sept. 16, 1944, in Healdton. She preceded him in death on Nov. 5, 1985.
In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include two sons, Emory Edward "Eddie" Wiley Jr. and wife Willeana Kay of Davis, and G.L. "Gary" Wiley and wife Dee of Norman; a grandson, Shannon Wiley and wife Melyssa of Garland, Texas; a granddaughter, Amber Poindexter and husband Rodney of Pruitt City; a step-granddaughter, Denise Bishop of McAlester; a step-grandson, Paul Motes Jr. of McAlester; a step-granddaughter-in-law, Vanessa Terry of Ada; great-grandchildren, Dathon, Cheyanna Poindexter of Pruitt City, Randa Ball, Brayden Motes and Jaiden Motes, all of McAlester, Kaitlyn Motes of Ada, and Destiny Motes of Belton, Mo.; two brothers, Audie F. Tanner and wife Vola of Tulsa, and Jimmy Wiley and wife Ollie of Hillsboro, Texas; a sister, Betty Terry of Fort Worth, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Melvin Delane "Butch" Wiley on May 19, 2004; and a brother, Richard Wiley.
Bearers will be Lonnie Carter, Leonard Jackson, Dewey Gandy, Dale Tivis, Paul Gaddis and Donald Henderson.
Honorary bearers are retirees and former employees of Mobil Oil Co.
