Eileen Jean Lundberg passed away from complications of pulmonary fibrosis on June 18, 2016 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines, IA.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, June 30 at the First Unitarian Church, 1800 Bell Ave., Des Moines.

Born October 31, 1946 in Des Moines, Eileen lived for many years near Runnells, IA where she enjoyed gardening, walks in the outdoors, caring for her grandchildren, and entertaining her family and friends. Eileen was employed in the tax and payroll departments for McGladrey in Des Moines for 15 years. Later, she spent 21 years as a trusted employee of Green Associates in the same capacity.

Eileen was well known for her rice pudding. She celebrated St. Patrick's Day by participating in the parade for many years. She loved Halloween (her birthday) and hosted many elaborate Halloween parties for the neighborhood children. Eileen was politically and socially active in protecting the rights of those without a voice. She served several terms on the Polk County Board of Health. As an active member of the First Unitarian Church in Des Moines, she became involved with Oxfam, promoting international hunger relief, and other social causes. She was a member of the American Sewing Guild, enjoying quilting and sewing for her children and grandchildren.

Eileen's caring soul, passion for fairness and wonderful smile will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her father, Francis Madden, and son, James.
