Obituary

COLUMBIA Mabry Binnicker, 86, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016. Born in Cope, S.C. on June 22, 1929, he was the son of the late George Willis Binnicker and Sallie Lee Binnicker. As a boy, Mr. Binnicker lived with his eight siblings, attending school in Norway S.C., graduating from Willow High School in 1946. He left home to attend Clemson A & M and graduated with a BS Degree in Animal Husbandry in 1951. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army where he served during the Korean War and was later stationed at Fort Jackson when he met his wife, Dorothy.

Mr. Binnicker continued an extensive career in Federal, State and Military Service. After leaving active duty in 1955, he began a career with the U.S. Probation Office (1955-1981) where he retired as Chief of the Columbia office in 1981 after 26 years of service. He returned to work with the State of S.C., working with the S.C. Court Administration and later with the S.C. Supreme Court where he served as Executive Secretary for the S.C. Judicial Standards Commission (1983-1994). In addition to his Federal and State positions, Mr. Binnicker continued to serve the military through the S.C. National Guard and U.S. Army Reserves, retiring as Colonel with 30 years of service.

Prior to his move to Wildwood Downs Retirement Community, Mr. Binnicker was an active member of Kathwood Baptist Church, serving on various committees and serving as Deacon.

Mr. Binnicker is predeceased by his son, William Rogers “Roger” Binnicker; grandson, Ryan Alexander Morris; brothers, George LeRoy Binnicker, Woodrow Binnicker, Rhodum Binnicker, Marvin Binnicker, Faber Binnicker; and sisters, Jimmie Lou Binnicker Garrick and Margie Binnicker Antley.

Mr. Binnicker is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Jean Rogers Binnicker; brother, William “Bill” Binnicker of Norway, S.C.; sons, Mabry LeRoy Binnicker of Key West, Fla., Jeffery Lee Binnicker (Kim) of Columbia; daughters, Jean Binnicker Morris (Wayne) of Murrells Inlet, Madge Binnicker McNaboe of Columbia; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Binnicker of New Orleans, La., Rachel Binnicker of Madison, WI., Caroline and Catherine Morris of Murrells Inlet and Garrett and Casey McNaboe of Columba.

While Mr. Binnicker enjoyed fishing and following his Clemson tiger football team, his greatest joy was caring for his wife. He will be terribly missed as a husband, Daddy, Granddaddy, father-in-law, Uncle and friend.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ruben Mayer and staff at the Columbia Medical Group for their care and compassion during his final years.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Kathwood Baptist Church, 4900 Trenholm Road, with interment following in Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg, S.C.
