Betty Ray Dewey age 89 formerly of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on June 18, 2016 at her home in Longview, Texas.

Betty was born on January 30, 1927 to Otis Ray and Kitty Bell (Smith) Abston in Floydada, Texas. As a young child they moved to Coffeyville, she attended grade school at Whittier Elementary then graduating from Field Kindley Memorial High School. Betty married Dale Almond Dewey in 1945 and shared 71 years together. The couple was married in Alexandria, Louisiana while Dale was in the Air Force. The couple initially made their home in Coffeyville, later moving to Edna, Kansas where they lived for a number of years while raising their three children there. They later returned to Coffeyville, and then started their retirement years at Afton, Oklahoma to enjoy life on Grand Lake. After a number of years they relocated to Longview, Texas to enjoy life on Lake Cherokee. The couple then transitioned back to Afton once again to live on Grand Lake. In order to be closer to family they returned Longview, Texas and it has been home to the couple for several years now. The couple enjoyed boating, fishing and a love for water together. Betty was a homemaker and in addition to fishing and boating she enjoyed working puzzles, card games, dominos, sewing and arts and crafts, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Coffeyville VFW Women's Auxiliary.

Betty is survived by her husband, Dale of the home, son, Donald Dale Dewey of Henderson, Texas; daughters, Nancy Jane Dewey of Longview, Texas, Debra Sue Dewey of Kilgore, Texas; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother in-laws and sister in-laws.

Graveside services honoring her life will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery on Wednesday, June22, 2016 at 10:30am. The family invites friends to visit from 9 to 10 am on Wednesday prior to the service at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the American Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016 or the Coffeyville VFW, 1714 W 8th St., Coffeyville, Kansas 67337, contributions may be left with the funeral home.
