Princeton – Ernest Neal McLellan, 86, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Ross Manor in Bangor. Ernest was born in Alexander on August 9, 1929, son of Byron and Lettie (MacArthur) McLellan. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and on October 13, 1949, married his high school sweet-heart, Ruth Barter. Following his service, he returned home and worked for St. Croix Paper Co. for several years. Eventually Ernest and Ruth relocated to Connecticut where he started a career as a carpenter. Upon their retirement, they both moved home to Princeton. Ernest was a member of Lewy’s Island Lodge #138 A.F. & A.M. in Princeton; was a 32nd Degree Mason; Princeton Rod & Gun Club, National Rifle Assoc., life-member of the American Hunters Assoc, life-member of the Maine Trappers Assoc, and life-member of the National Trapping Assoc.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Ruth McLellan. Surviving are his son Jeffrey McLellan of Princeton; two sisters, Gertrude Roberts and Josephine Clark; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the South Princeton Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
