Jose Antonio Demetrio Aguila was born on 24 December 1799 in San Jose, Alta California to Jose Vicente Aguila and Maria Ygnacio Remigia Vasquez. He was baptized on the same day at Mission Santa Clara.
In Los Angeles about 25 September 1838 he was knifed in the back by Jose Antonio Valencia (Memorial #164684181) as he was beating Valencia's younger brother. Antonio died of the wound and was buried on 26 September 1838 at Mission San Gabriel Cemetery. He was single at the time of his death. Valencia was tried and convicted of murder and was executed by firing squad on 19 November 1838 in Los Angeles.
