Silas Beals
Silas Beals was born in Cole County, Illinois, August 11, 1836, and passed away at his home near Seneca, Nebraska, January 7, 1927, aged 90 years, 4 months and 27 days.
Early in his life he moved with his parents to Forsythe, Missouri, where he grew to manhood. He was the 8th child of a family of 10 children, born to Jonathan and Elizabeth Beals.
He enlisted Oct. 2, 1861 in the infantry and served six months in Co. B. Phelps Reg. of Missouri Volunteers when he was honorably discharged.
Later he enlisted in Co. D, 8th Iowa Cavalry. Was enrolled the 15th day of July, 1863, and discharged in August 1865, at Macon, Georgia.
He was married to Margaret Phillips, June 21, 1866, in Wayne County, Iowa. To this union were born six children, Viola E., Laura E., Elton D., Myron, Miner and Margret.
His wife passed away April 1, 1876.
On June 18, 1876, he married Temandra McGinnis, at Derby, Iowa. To this union were born eight children, William, Guly, Goldie, John I., Jesse, Jasper L., and Rachel M.
He moved from Derby, Iowa, to Ortello Valley in Feb., 1889 where he, with his family, lived until April, 1909, when he moved to his homestead 8 miles south of Seneca, at which place he passed away after a lingering illness of several months.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Laura Watts of Lodgepole, Mrs. Margaret Bilyue of Lincoln, Mrs. Rachel McCandless of Anselmo; Myron of Paonia, Colo., Miner of Eau Claire, Wis., John I. and Jasper L. of Seneca; one stepson, S.A. McGinnis of Seneca; many other relatives and a host of friends. The other six children preceded their father to the great beyond.
Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Hird of Mullen. The body was shipped to Anselmo where interment took place.

McGinnis of Seneca; many other relatives and a host of friends. The other six children preceded their father to the great beyond.
Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Hird of Mullen. The body was shipped to Anselmo where interment took place.
