Mrs McCord had remained on the critical list at the hospital for the past five days, and according to hospital authorities ninety-five percent of her body had been burnt.
Firemen who responded to the call at her apartment Sunday morning said that she had been wiping off the top of her stove when the mishap occurred. Cause of the accident was not determined but firemen said the chenille robe Mrs McCord was wearing had ignited and ultimately resulted in her death.
She was rushed to the Clinton County hospital in a Goodwin ambulance and was later taken to the Indianapolis hospital.
Mrs McCord was born in Clinton County March 27 1880 the daughter of Benton and Margaret(Troutman) Wayt, and had lived in the county all her life. She was a member of the Sedalia Methodist church, Rebecca lodge and the Isaac Walton auxiliary.
Surviving are two sons Homer Mitchell and Louis B Mitchell both of Frankfort; a daughter Hazel Reed, Frankfort; three sisters Myrtle Miller Frankfort Isa Conery, Paris Ill and Mable Swallow, San Francisco and a brother Charles Wayt, Spokane Wash.
Services will be held 3:30pm Saturday from the Goodwin Funeral home with Rev Otis L Collier officiating. Burial follows at Bunnell cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4pm Friday.
