Dorothy Jane Brookins, age 91, of Tawas City, Michigan former resident of National City, Michigan died on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Lakeview Manor Nursing Home in Tawas City, Michigan.
She was born the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Grabowski) Sowulewski on February 14, 1925 in Saginaw, Michigan. Dorothy graduated from St. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Saginaw, Michigan.
After graduation she married Charles Brookins, Sr. on November 28, 1944 at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Saginaw, Michigan. Dorothy worked for many years and retired as a computer operator at Sysco Foods.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas. She enjoyed reading and playing BINGO.
Dorothy is survived by her children Charles (Lois) Brookins, Jr.; Cathy (Peter) Hancheck and Richard (Lynn) Brookins. Grandchildren; Jeff (Angela), Julie (Mark), Jen (Jeff), Matt (Brita), Melinda (Chad), Anthony, James (Melanie), Randy and Andy. Great grandchildren; Travis, Shane, Audrey, Evelyn, Carleigh, Cooper, Danica, Mike, Phoenix, Bishop and Isaac. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Charles “Bus” Brookins, Sr.; her brother and sister Joseph Sowulewski and Arlene Harvey.
Per Dorothy’s wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy family Catholic Church and School.
