Alvin "Al" Deist, 90, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Genesis Senior Living in Des Moines.

Al was born on March 30, 1926, outside of Audubon, Iowa to Fred and Emma (Koenig) Deist. He attended Audubon High School, was a WWII and Korean War veteran. After retiring from Miller's Hardware in 1991, he enjoyed spending time with friends at the Northwest Senior Center playing bingo and dominos. He was well known for his garage sales, when he wasn't having a sale he was on the look out for future sales inventory.

Survivors include his daughter, Patti (Don); step-daughters Donna (David) and Diane (Jim); step-daughter-in-law Vicky; one grandson, Christopher (Amy); six step-grandchildren, fourteen step-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Barbara (Bernie).

Al was preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers, one infant sister, and his wives, Marilyn Deist and Rena Liter-Deist.
