A daughter of Gouverneur Morris, II and "Patsy" Cary. A grand-daughter of Gouverneur Morris, Signer of the US Constitution.

In 1892 Anne Cary Morris married Alfred Percival Maudslay, a British diplomat, explorer and archaeologist.

For their October 1893 honeymoon, the couple set sail from Liverpool to New York, then by train via Chicago to San Francisco and finally by sea again via Acapulco to San José in Guatemala. From San Jose, they used a ne, narrow-gauge railway which took them, and all their luggage, including glass negatives and plaster for casts, to the capital.

Following a long journey by horse (for Alfred) and mule (for Annie) with further mules for assistants and an additional six cargo mules, by late February 1894, the two were in Zacapá. There the Maudslays worked for two weeks on behalf of the Peabody Museum of Harvard University. Their account was published in 1899 as "A Glimpse at Guatemala."
