He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force on September 28, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Having actually gone "Missing" on 16 Apr 1945, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until April 16, 1946, 1 year and 1 day after he went missing as was the custom.
Everett was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-29 was hit by enemy flak and crashed in the sea near Kanagwa during the war. The entire crew of 10 perished during this flight.
He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
