A. D. Scruggs, 98, of 122 Noble Road, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at his residence.
Born in Gaffney, S.C. he was the husband of the late Annie Phillips Scruggs and son of the late Thomas C. Scruggs and Mamie Hammett Scruggs.
He retired from the Cherokee County Soil Conservation Service, was a charter member of Cherokee Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of Cherokee Creek Baptist Church where he was a former deacon. He loved coon hunting with his grandchildren, fishing, gardening, and loved his family, friends and church.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Gerald Scruggs and wife, Beverly, and Everett Nick Scruggs and wife, Barbara, both of Gaffney; a brother, Shealy Scruggs of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren, Lydia Mann and husband, Terry, Tommy Scruggs and wife, Michelle, Andy Scruggs and wife, Jamie, and Steve Scruggs and wife, Rhonda; 10 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jerene Ruppe and Julia Godfrey.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Cherokee Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 p.m. at the Church with Rev. Jim Davidson officiating. Interment will be in the Cherokee Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Cherokee Creek Baptist Church, “Debt Retirement”, 501 Buck Shoals Road, Gaffney, S.C. 29341.
The family will be at the home of Gerald & Beverly Scruggs, 318 Buck Shoals Road, Gaffney.
