SWEETWATER -- Hellen E. Scales, 95, passed away Monday, February 14, 2005 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. Hellen was formerly from Sweetwater, Texas.

Funeral services are 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Bill Baskett and Joe Bagby and Danny Dodds officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater.

Hellen was born October 20, 1909 in Flint, Michigan. She married Tommy Hardin. After his death she married Col. William Claude Scales on May 28, 1957 in Sweetwater. He passed away on September 21, 1989.

She was a member of Baker Heights Church of Christ in Abilene. She lived in Sweetwater since she was a teenager and moved to Abilene about 11 years ago. She had been a beautician, worked for Western Union as a teletypist, and worked for the A.S.C.S. office several years before retiring.

Survivors include a sister, Beatrice Nelson of Sweetwater; a grandson, Darron Hardin of Sweetwater; a granddaughter, Deborah Bentley of San Angelo; three great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; nieces, Mary Jan Cogburn of Brownwood, Hellen Ann Nelson of Sweetwater, and Mary Frances Jenkins of Carthage, Mississippi; nephews Thearl Nelson of Sweetwater, Harold Lee Nelson of McDade, Texas and Danny Dodds of Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Tommy Hardin and second husband Col. William Claude Scales and a son Tommy Gene Hardin.

Family visitation will be this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
