Bobby grew up in West Monroe, LA, and was the first in his family to earn a college degree. After graduating from Northeast State University in Agriculture in 1952, Bobby went on to earn a Master of Science from LSU in dairy science. After his education, he joined the Army and took a tour of duty in Germany. After returning from Germany, he took a position as an assistant county agent in Franklin parish. This job began a 33 year career with the LSU Agricultural Extension. He was promoted to a dairy specialist for the LSU Extension which brought him to Baton Rouge. He soon met his wife, Betty, who was an assistant 4-H club agent in the Agriculture Department at LSU in 1956. They married soon after and lived in Baton Rouge until now. Bobby became heavily involved in the 4-H Program and touched many children's lives as he traveled across Louisiana as the State-wide director of the 4-H dairy program. This association with LSU made him an avid LSU sports fan. Although he loved all LSU sports, this love was eclipsed by his love of his Lord Jesus Christ and the love of his family. He encouraged his children to love God, work diligently and was extremely proud of their accomplishments. He rarely missed his children's and grandchildren's ball games, recitals or school activities. He attended Southside Baptist Church, taught Sunday school and was an ordained deacon. Later the family moved to University Baptist Church.
Bobby and Betty worked hard to put all four children through LSU and together they earned over 7 degrees. Each of his four children married LSU graduates with multiple degrees increasing this total number to 13. All of his ten grandchildren graduated from LSU as well.
The love of his family shows today in the eyes of his grandchildren who followed in their Papa's footsteps and became LSU Tigers. Bobby and Betty, along with their siblings and friends, traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe.
Bobby is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Sharon Kilpatrick of West Monroe, his sister and brother-in-law, Myrle and Jimmy White of West Monroe, LA.
Bobby is predeceased by his sisters, Eva Kilpatrick Bonnette, Neva Kilpatrick Brown and Mona Faye Kilpatrick.
Visitation will be at University Baptist Church on Thursday, June 9, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm and will resume on Friday, June 10th, from 10:00 am until the funeral service at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home or the LSU Foundation for benefit of the LSU Ag Center 4-H Program.
