Bodies Of Three Children Found In Lake Elsinore

ELSINORE-The bodies of three young children were found floating in Lake Elsinore early today, and two other members of their family with whom they went boating were feared drowned. The Riverside county sheriff's office said the bodies of two year old Valerie Anders, her sister, Judy, 2, and her brother, Patrick, 7, were found floating a short distance off shore just before 3 a.m. Also missing were their father Kenneth Anders, 40-year-old butcher, and older brother, Hal, 12. The Anders went out on the lake around 4 pm yesterday for a ride, and it was feared they were caught in a squall around dusk. The father and three younger children were in a 14-foot power boat which was found washed ashore last night. Hal launched his seven-foot row boat about the same time. The sheriff's office said Judy and Patrick were wearing life jackets when their bodies were found, but Valerie had no life jacket. The Anders lived at Lake and Village on the south shore of the Lake. A friend and Anders' wife, Naomi, notified police when the boating party failed to return to shore by 7:30 p.m. The Anders' two older daughters, Kennadine, 17, and Mary, 15, were at a high school dance when they learned of the tragedy. The dance broke up when all the boys present volunteered to join the search. Scores of residents of the lake area, many in small boats that plied back and forth across the lake, also aided police and sheriffs deputies in the hunt.
