MARK HUFFMAN
DIES AT HOME
SUNDAY, MAY 30
1942

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Beverly Methodist church for William Marcus (Mark) Huffman, well-known and highly respected resident of that community, who died at his home at twelve-fifteen o'clock Sunday morning. Rev. R.V. Henry officiated at the services and burial was in Mound Prairie cemetery.
Mr. Huffman suffered a parlytic stroke about a year ago and since that time his health has failed rapidly.
Previous to this illness he was unusually active and mentally alert for a man of his advanced years. He took a prominent part in civic affairs of his community and was well-posted on national and world events. He had served his community as Town Clerk and Supervisor. He was a member of the Methodist church, and belonged to the Masonic Lodge of Kingston and Tri-State.
Mr. Huffman was born February 8, 1861 at Georgetown, Illinois, the son of Pleasant Bronlow and Nancy Clifton Huffman. His father was a Methodist minister and in 1878 the family moved to Beverly where Mr. Huffman spent the rest of his life.
On January 15, 1882, he was married to Miss Emma Sykes. The couple resided in a small house near the home of Mrs. Huffman's parents until the Sykes family moved to Barry. Then they moved to the Sykes homestead which they later purchased, and where they lived until they moved to Beverly about four years ago.
They became the parents of five children, three of whom, with the widow, survive; Mrs. laura Lierle at home, Mrs. Elsie Sykes of Beverly and Frank, who lives on the home place. The eldest son, William, passed away August 12, 1941 and one daughter, Helen, died in infancy.
