Denver was the son of Oscar Aaron and Minnie Katherine (Sourbeck) Smith. In 1905 the family moved to Grant County and resided on a farm near Big Stone City.
Denver was united in marriage to Matilda Fredrichsen in September 1919. They were blessed with four children.
Denver is survived by son, Aaron; daughters, Arvilla, Darlene (Mrs. Leo Barnhardt), and Janet; 17 grandchildren; and sister, Mrs. Lula Warner.
Denver was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister, Fredericka Diedricksen.
Funeral services were held at Tabor Evangelical United Brethern Church with Rev. Ervin Rudolph officiating. Casket bearers were Fred Loeschke, Theodore Conraads, Carl Loraff, Nick Van Lith, Ray Hall and Lee Whiting. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, rural Big Stone City.
