Melvin retired from Conrail Railroad in Jackson. He had been resident of Hillsdale prior to moving to Jackson.
Surviving besides his wife Wilma, were two sons, James (Alice) Walwarth of Jackson and Melvin (Sally) Gilbert Jr. of Hawkensville, Georgia; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wilford Gilbert of Missouri.
