He was the son of Nettie B. (Minor) and Henry Louis ("Harry") Bickers. He married only once, to Kathryne Fay Kelly. They had 6 children (5 sons and one daughter). He was buried first in the Gap Hill (paupers) Cemetery in Carrollton, Carroll County, KY near General Butler Stake Park. Due to the poor upkeep of this cemetery, his remains and gravestone were moved to the Owenton, KY I. O. O. F. Cemetery in 1992. He was known well as "Norvin T.", but his children always called him "Daddy" -- never father or dad.
