Harland was the son of Gerald and Esther Magoun Tracy. He graduated from Dixfield High School and continued his education at the Massachusetts Radio School, where he studied to become a radio and television technician.

Mr. Tracy, a member of the U.S. Army/Air Force, was a tower controller and direction-finder with the 496th Fighter Training Unit in Goxhill, England, and served in the European theater from October 1940 to October 1945.

In 1942, he married Rita Anna Durant (1918-1987) in Holyoke, Mass. For several years, Mr. Tracy was employed by Telewire Corp. in Holyoke. He returned to Maine in 1960 and was employed as a saw engineer at Stowell-McGreagor in his hometown of Dixfield. He later was employed by R. Hoe and Co. Inc., of Birmingham, Ala. as a salesman.

In 1973, Mr. Tracy married Margaret Waldorf Stevens at Dixfield. For the last two years, they had made their home on Eastern Avenue in Wilton.

Survivors include his wife of Wilton; his mother Esther Searles of Wilton; a son, Richard G. of Auburn; a daughter, Geraldine Peach of North Chili, NY, and five grandchildren

He was predeceased by a brother, Malcolm C. Tracy and a great-granddaughter, Jennifer Tracy.
