Relatives or researchers are encouraged to submit information that can define him more accurately.

James "H." Darnall, son of John Darnell of Elk Prairie Township, Jefferson Co. IL. is listed in the 1860 census as 25 yr. The 1850 census lists James "M." Darnell age 16, living in Jefferson Co. with the family of widowed Lt. Gov. Stinson Anderson along with three daughters of John Darnell and Shuby Twitty, his second wife who seems to have died. James is listed as a laborer here.

John Darnell's will lists among his heirs two grandsons, sons of his deceased son John, Jr. One is named James. Their ages are not given. Some data may be that of his grandson, James, rather than his son, James.

The Mary Darnall listed in 1860 census is NOT his mother but his father's third wife, widow, Mary Ann Manees. James' mother is John's first wife, name unknown.

A James Darnell married Mary Jane Freeman in 1852. She survived him. A James Darnell died in 1872 in Hamilton Co.
